Пока отношения США и СССР достигают пика противостояния, советское государство не теряет времени даром, и сооружает атомную подводную лодку, оснащенную ядерным оружием. Капитан корабля Алексей Востриков решает испытать лодку, подключая всех членов экипажа. Но подчиненных огорчает факт экстремальных условий, при которых их заставляют работать. Тем временем температура атомного реактора начинает расти, и если не предпринять действий по его охлаждению, то произойдет утечка ядерного топлива. После совещания, бригада моряков сооружает резервный водопровод, который сможет устранить возникшую проблему. Но это не ограждает экипаж от утечки радиации. Чем закончится накаленная обстановка для команды?
